BOARD MEMBERS

Rudi Southerland

Rudi Southerland dedicated his entire professional career to helping others, starting with his service in the San Diego Lifeguard Service, the San Diego Harbor Patrol and then on to the San Diego City Fire Department.  He retired as a Fire Captain after more than 40 years of service to the public.   Rudi has always been very passionate about making the world a better place, without it ever being about him.  His crew saved the life of a prominent citizen who visited the fire station afterward and wanted to give each member a very valuable gift.  Rudi explained that this was not possible and instead of turning away the generous offer, suggested that a donation be made to upgrade the entire fleet of fire trucks and ambulances with state of the art EKGs. The entire city of San Diego became the beneficiary that started with Rudi`s crew making a correct life-saving pre-hospital diagnosis that disagreed with the readout of the EKG machine in use by San Diego Fire at that time.  Rudi’s commitment did not end with his retirement.  He conceived of, and personally funded, what eventually became the Nevada 100 Club.  His vision continues to grow as we bring new benefits into our programs that benefit all first responders in the State of Nevada.
