Remembering and celebrating the brave heroes who gave their lives in service to our community. Here are first responders who have lost their lives while on duty. We honor their service and dedication to the community they served and ensure that their sacrifices do not go unrecognized.

HONORING NEVADA'S FALLEN FIRST RESPONDERS

  • ALBERTO FELIX

    End of Watch : 11.30.2023

    Nevada Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol

    Trooper Alberto Felix and Sergeant Michael Abbate were struck and killed by a drunk driver at 3:23 a.m. off Interstate 15 near D Street in Las Vegas.

    Sergeant Abbate and Trooper Felix had stopped to check on a driver who appeared to be sleeping in his car. Another vehicle hit them and fled the scene. One officer died at the scene. The other officer was transported to UMC Trauma Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

    The subject was apprehended six hours later and was charged with two counts of each charge: reckless driving resulting in death, driving under the influence resulting in death, and duty to stop at the scene of an accident involving death.

    Trooper Felix was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the Nevada Department of Public Safety - Nevada Highway Patrol for four years. He is survived by his wife and children.

  • ANTHONY FRANCONE

    End of Watch : 08.25.2023

    Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Police Department

    Police Officer Anthony Francone was struck and killed by a vehicle that was being pursued south of Nixon, Nevada.

    The pursuit went to the area of Route 446 and Route 447, where he was struck while deploying spike strips.

    The subject was shot and killed after he struck Officer Francone.

    Officer Francone had served in Law Enforcement for 25 years. He had previously served with the Eureka County Sheriff's Office and Storey County Sheriff's Office, where he retired. After retirement, he served with the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Police Department. Officer Francone is survived by his two sons, daughter, father, stepmother, and sister.

  • TRUNG THAI

    End of Watch : 10.13.2022

    Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department

    Police Officer Truong Thai was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 800 block of East Flamingo Road at about 1:00 am.

    The subject opened fire from inside his vehicle as Officer Thai and his partner attempted to make contact with him at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South University Center Drive. Officer Thai and a civilian were both struck by the subject's shots. Officer Thai succumbed to his wounds while being transported to a local hospital.

    The man fled the scene but was apprehended by a police canine approximately three miles away after refusing to exit his vehicle.

    Officer Thai had served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for 23 years and was assigned to the South Central Area Command. He is survived by his daughter.
